Arcadia Literary Society of Modi College Organizes Two Days Literature Festival on Women’s Day

The Arcadia Society of English Department of Multani Mal Modi College, Patiala organized two days literature Festival to mark the contribution of women in the field of art and literature. This literature festival focused on exploring the literary and cultural texts written by women writers and their role in the process of civilization and construction of the modern democratic societies. Dr. Ritu Lehal, Director, Women Studies Centre, Punjabi University, Patiala was the chief guest in this programme. Mrs. Santosh Goyal, Principal, Senior Secondary Arya School, Patiala, was the guest of honour.
College Principal Dr. Khushvinder Kumar inaugurated the festival and said that women are the backbone of our civilization and society. From the first written novel of the literary world till date their role in defining and redefining the landscapes of literature and art is remarkable. He also motivated the students to make this world gender neutral and empathetic to the struggles of millions of women.
On the first day of the festival, various competitions and literary activities such as Calligraphy art, Poetry and Short-story writing was organized. In Calligraphy, the first position was won by Satwinder Kaur, second by Hargun Kaur and third position by Deepali. Consolation prize was given to Sakshi for her efforts. In Poetry and Short- story writing the first prize was won by Anoushka Dhaliwal, second by Umanshi Malhotra and Manpreet Kaur jointly and third position was shared by Reetu and Gaurav Thakur.
The second day of the Literary Festival followed other different competitions. In ‘Extempore’, the first position was won by Naunidh Marya,
while the second position was achieved by Gaurav Thakur and Jiya Jand was on third position. After this event, students showed their PPT presentations exploring the world of women in the texts, cinema, art, science and history. During six presentations many contemporary real-life issues and problems of women were discussed. In this competition the best presentation award was won by Gracy, the second position was achieved by Saroor Saryu and Deepanshu was on third position.
In the next part of the programme, the students reviewed many Bollywood and Hollywood movies and books which were based on the issues of gender-justice, the oppression of patriarchal system and struggles of women against the gender-based violence. In this competition, the best review award was won by Noorpreet Kaur, second by Yashana and Naunidh Marya was on third position. Consolation prize was won by Anoushka Dhaliwal.
The festival concluded with the play, “Lights Out’ written by playwright Manjula Padmanabhan. This play focuses on the theme of gang rape, women subjugation and exposes the hypocrisy of the upper and middle classes on the issues of violence against women. In the play, the student actors Jerusha (in the role of Bhaskar), Bhoomika (in the role of Leela), Vishal Sadwal (in the role of Mohan), Anoushka Dhaliwal (in the role of Naina) Vishnu (in the role of Surinder) and Isha (in the role of Freeda) beautifully depicted the insensitive and apathetic behaviour of the learned people against the vulnerability of women for heinous crimes such as domestic violence, rape and physical-psychological abuses of women.
Prof. Vaneet Kaur, Head, Department of English told that this Literary festival was organized for providing a platform for creative, literary and reviewing skills of the students. The faculty of the Department Dr. Harleen Kaur, Prof. Harpreet Singh, Prof. Tanvir Kaur, Prof. Gagandeep Kaur, Prof. Amandeep Kaur, Prof. Chitvan Kaur and Prof. Parneet Kaur worked hard to make this programme a success. All faculty members and staff were present on this occasion.

ਸਥਾਨਕ ਮੁਲਤਾਨੀ ਮੱਲ ਮੋਦੀ ਕਾਲਜ ਦੇ ਅੰਗਰੇਜ਼ੀ ਵਿਭਾਗ ਦੀ ਲਿਟਰੇਰੀ ਸੁਸਾਇਟੀ ‘ਆਰਕੇਡੀਆ’ ਵੱਲੋਂ ਅੱਜ ਇੰਟਰਨੈਸ਼ਨਲ ਵੂਮੈਨ ਡੇ ਨੂੰ ਸਮਰਪਿਤ ਦੋ ਰੋਜ਼ਾ ਲਿਟਰੇਚਰ ਫੈਸਟੀਵਲ ਦਾ ਆਯੋਜਨ ਕੀਤਾ ਗਿਆ।ਇਸ ਲਿਟਰੇਚਰ ਫੈਸਟੀਵਲ ਦਾ ਮੁੱਖ ਉਦੇਸ਼ ਜਿੱਥੇ ਔਰਤਾਂ ਦੀ ਸਾਹਿਤ ਅਤੇ ਕਲਾ ਦੇ ਖੇਤਰ ਵਿੱਚ ਇਤਿਹਾਸਕ ਤੌਰ ਤੇ ਅਣਮੁੱਲੀ ਦੇਣ ਨੂੰ ਯਾਦ ਕਰਨਾ ਸੀ ਉੱਥੇ ਵਿਦਿਆਰਥੀਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਔਰਤਾਂ ਦੁਆਰਾ ਲਿਖੀਆਂ ਕਿਤਾਬਾਂ ਤੇ ਕਲਾ ਦੇ ਖੇਤਰ ਵਿੱਚ ਕੀਤੇ ਤਜਰਬਿਆਂ ਤੋਂ ਜਾਣੂ ਕਰਵਾਉਣਾ ਸੀ। ਇਹ ਲਿਟਰੇਚਰ ਫੈਸੀਟਵਲ ਔਰਤਾਂ ਵੱਲੋਂ ਹਜ਼ਾਰਾਂ ਰੁਕਾਵਟਾਂ ਦੇ ਬਾਵਜੂਦ ਲੋਕਤੰਤਰੀ ਸਮਾਜਾਂ ਦੀ ਰਚਨਾ ਵਿੱਚ ਅਹਿਮ ਹਿੱਸਾ ਪਾਉਣ ਅਤੇ ਸੱਭਿਅਤਾ ਦੇ ਵਿਕਾਸ ਵਿੱਚ ਨਿਭਾਈ ਭੂਮਿਕਾ ਦੇ ਸਨਮਾਨ ਵਿੱਚ ਆਯੋਜਿਤ ਕੀਤਾ ਗਿਆ।ਇਸ ਮੌਕੇ ਤੇ ਮੁੱਖ ਮਹਿਮਾਨ ਵੱਜੋਂ ਡਾ. ਰਿੱਤੂ ਲਹਿਲ, ਡਾਇਰੈਕਟਰ, ਵੂਮੈਨ ਸਟੱਡੀਜ਼ ਸੈਂਟਰ, ਪੰਜਾਬੀ ਯੂਨੀਵਰਸਿਟੀ, ਪਟਿਆਲਾ ਨੇ ਸ਼ਿਰਕਤ ਕੀਤੀ। ਇਸ ਤੋਂ ਇਲਾਵਾ ਇਸ ਸਮਾਗਮ ਦੌਰਾਨ ਸ਼੍ਰੀਮਤੀ ਸੰਤੋਸ਼ ਗੋਇਲ, ਪ੍ਰਿੰਸੀਪਲ, ਆਰਿਆ ਸੀਨੀਅਰ ਸੈਕੰਡਰੀ ਸਕੂਲ, ਪਟਿਆਲਾ ਨੂੰ ਵੀ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਸਿੱਖਿਆ ਖੇਤਰ ਵਿੱਚ ਯੋਗਦਾਨ ਲਈ ਸਨਮਾਨਿਤ ਕੀਤਾ ਗਿਆ।
ਕਾਲਜ ਪ੍ਰਿੰਸੀਪਲ ਡਾ. ਖੁਸ਼ਵਿੰਦਰ ਕੁਮਾਰ ਜੀ ਨੇ ਇਸ ਦੋ ਰੋਜ਼ਾ ਲਿਟਰੇਚਰ ਫੈਸਟੀਵਲ ਦੇ ਉਦਘਾਟਨ ਸਮੇਂ ਇਸ ਮੌਕੇ ਤੇ ਪਹੁੰਚੇ ਮੁੱਖ ਮਹਿਮਾਨ, ਅਧਿਆਪਕਾਂ ਅਤੇ ਵਿਦਿਆਰਥੀਆਂ ਦਾ ਨਿੱਘਾ ਸਵਾਗਤ ਕਰਦਿਆਂ ਕਿਹਾ ਕਿ ਦੁਨੀਆ ਦਾ ਪਹਿਲਾ ਨਾਵਲ ਲਿਖੇ ਜਾਣ ਤੋਂ ਅੱਜ ਤੱਕ ਔਰਤਾਂ ਦਾ ਸੰਘਰਸ਼ ਨਿਰੰਤਰ ਜਾਰੀ ਹੈ। ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੇ ਕਿਹਾ ਕਿ ਔਰਤਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਹੁੰਦੀ ਹਿੰਸਾ ਨੂੰ ਹਰ ਪੱਧਰ ਤੇ ਸੰਬੋਧਨ ਹੋਣ ਦੀ ਜ਼ਰੂਰਤ ਹੈ।
ਇਸ ਦੋ ਰੋਜ਼ਾ ਲਿਟਰੇਚਰ ਫੈਸਟੀਵਲ ਦੇ ਪਹਿਲੇ ਦਿਨ ਵਿਦਿਆਰਥੀਆਂ ਲਈ ਸੁੰਦਰ ਲਿਖਾਈ ਲੇਖਣ, ਕਵਿਤਾ ਤੇ ਮਿੰਨੀ ਕਹਾਣੀ ਲਿਖਣ ਦੇ ਮੁਕਾਬਲੇ ਆਯੋਜਿਤ ਕੀਤੇ ਗਏ। ਸੁੰਦਰ ਲਿਖਾਈ ਲੇਖਣ ਮੁਕਾਬਲੇ ਵਿੱਚ ਪਹਿਲਾ ਇਨਾਮ ਸਤਵਿੰਦਰ ਕੌਰ, ਦੂਜਾ ਇਨਾਮ ਹਰਗੁਣ ਕੌਰ, ਤੀਜਾ ਇਨਾਮ ਦੀਪਾਲੀ ਤੇ ਹੌਸਲਾ ਵਧਾਊ ਇਨਾਮ ਸ਼ਾਖਸੀ ਨੇ ਜਿੱਤਿਆ। ਕਵਿਤਾ-ਮਿੰਨੀ ਕਹਾਣੀ ਲੇਖਣ ਮੁਕਾਬਲੇ ਵਿਚੋਂ ਪਹਿਲਾ ਇਨਾਮ ਅਨੁਸ਼ਕਾ ਧਾਲੀਵਾਲ, ਦੂਜਾ ਇਨਾਮ ਉਮਨਸ਼ੀ ਮਲਹੋਤਰਾ ਤੇ ਮਨਪ੍ਰੀਤ ਕੌਰ ਨੇ ਸਾਂਝੇ ਤੌਰ ਤੇ ਜਿੱਤਿਆ। ਤੀਜੇ ਸਥਾਨ ਤੇ ਰੀਤੂ ਅਤੇ ਗੌਰਵ ਠਾਕੁਰ ਰਹੇ।
ਦੂਜੇ ਦਿਨ ਇਸ ਪ੍ਰੋਗਰਾਮ ਦੌਰਾਨ ਵਿਦਿਆਰਥੀਆਂ ਨੇ ‘ਮੌਕੇ ਤੇ ਵਿਚਾਰ-ਚਰਚਾ’ ਦੇ ਮੁਕਾਬਲਿਆਂ ਵਿੱਚ ਸ਼ਾਨਦਾਰ ਪ੍ਰਦਰਸ਼ਣ ਕੀਤਾ।ਇਹਨਾਂ ਵਿੱਚ ਪਹਿਲਾ ਇਨਾਮ ਨੌਨਿੱਧ ਮਾਰਿਆ, ਦੂਜਾ ਇਨਾਮ ਗੌਰਵ ਠਾਕੁਰ, ਤੀਜਾ ਇਨਾਮ ਜੀਆ ਜੰਡ ਨੇ ਜਿੱਤਿਆ।ਇਸ ਤੋਂ ਇਲਾਵਾ ਔਰਤ ਵਿਗਿਆਨਕਾਂ ਅਤੇ ਔਰਤ ਖੋਜੀਆਂ ਦੀ ਆਧੁਨਿਕ ਵਿਗਿਆਨ ਅਤੇ ਸਿਆਸੀ-ਸਮਾਜਿਕ ਪ੍ਰਬੰਧਾਂ ਵਿੱਚ ਪਾਏ ਯੋਗਦਾਨ ਨੂੰ ਵੱਖ-ਵੱਖ ਤਕਨੀਕੀ ਵਿਧੀਆਂ ਰਾਹੀ ਪੇਸ਼ ਕੀਤਾ।ਇਹਨਾਂ ਪੇਸ਼ਕਾਰੀਆਂ ਵਿੱਚ ਇਹ ਤੱਥ ਉਭਰਕੇ ਆਏ ਕਿ ਜਿੱਥੇ ਔਰਤਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਦਮਨ ਤੇ ਹਿੰਸਾ ਦਾ ਵੱਧ ਟਾਕਰਾ ਕਰਨਾ ਪੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਉੱਥੇ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੁਆਰਾ ਅਲੱਗ-ਅਲੱਗ ਖੇਤਰਾਂ ਵਿੱਚ ਪਾਏ ਯੋਗਦਾਨ ਨੂੰ ਅਣਦੇਖਿਆ ਕਰਨ ਦੀ ਪ੍ਰਵਿਰਤੀ ਬਹੁਤ ਆਮ ਹੈ। ਇਹਨਾਂ ਪੀਪੀਟੀ ਮੁਕਾਬਲਿਆਂ ਵਿੱਚ ਪਹਿਲਾ ਸਥਾਨ ਗਰੇਸੀ, ਦੂਜਾ ਸਥਾਨ ਸਰੂਰ ਸਰਾਉ ਤੇ ਤੀਜਾ ਸਥਾਨ ਦੀਪਾਸ਼ੂ ਨੇ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਕੀਤਾ।
ਇਸ ਤੋਂ ਅਗਲੇ ਮੁਕਾਬਲੇ ਵਿੱਚ ਵਿਦਿਆਰਥੀਆਂ ਨੇ ਲਿੰਗਕ-ਵਿਤਕਰੇ ਅਤੇ ਔਰਤਾਂ ਖਿਲਾਫ਼ ਹੁੰਦੀ ਵੱਖ-ਵੱਖ ਕਿਸਮਾਂ ਦੀ ਹਿੰਸਾ ਬਾਰੇ ਬਣੀਆਂ ਬਾਲੀਵੁੱਡ ਤੇ ਹਾਲੀਵੁੱਡ ਦੀਆਂ ਚੋਣਵੀਆਂ ਫਿਲਮਾਂ ਦੇ ਰਿਵਿਊ ਪੇਸ਼ ਕੀਤੇ।ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੁਆਰਾ ਇਸ ਮੁਕਾਬਲੇ ਲਈ ਚੁਣੀਆਂ ਫਿਲਮਾਂ ਵਿੱਚੋਂ ‘ਥੱਪੜ’, ‘ਪਿੰਕ’, ‘ਇੰਗਲਿੰਸ਼-ਵਿੰਗਲਿਸ਼’ ਤੇ ‘ਲਿਟਲ ਵੂਮੈਨ’ ਪ੍ਰਮੁੱਖ ਸਨ।ਇਹਨਾਂ ਮੁਕਾਬਲਿਆਂ ਵਿੱਚੋਂ ਪਹਿਲਾ ਸਥਾਨ ਨੂਰਪ੍ਰੀਤ ਕੌਰ, ਦੂਜਾ ਸਥਾਨ ਯਾਸ਼ਨਾ ਗੋਇਲ ਤੇ ਤੀਜਾ ਸਥਾਨ ਨੌਨਿੱਧ ਮਾਰਿਆ ਨੇ ਜਿੱਤਿਆ।ਹੌਸਲਾ ਵਧਾਊ ਇਨਾਮ ਦੀ ਜੇਤੂ ਅਨੁਸ਼ਕਾ ਧਾਲੀਵਾਲ ਰਹੀ।
ਇਸ ਪ੍ਰੋਗਰਾਮ ਦੇ ਅੰਤ ਤੇ ਵਿਦਿਆਰਥੀਆਂ ਵੱਲੋਂ ਬਲਾਤਕਾਰ ਨਾਲ ਜੁੜੀਆਂ ਧਾਰਨਾਵਾਂ ਅਤੇ ਇਸ ਨੂੰ ਅਣਦੇਖਿਆ ਕਰਨ ਦੇ ਸੱਭਿਆਚਾਰ ਬਾਰੇ ਇੱਕ ਨਾਟਕ ‘ਲਾਈਟਜ਼ ਆਊਟ’ ਵੀ ਪ੍ਰਸਤੁਤ ਕੀਤਾ ਗਿਆ।ਇਸ ਨਾਟਕ ਵਿੱਚ ਗੈਂਗਰੇਪ, ਔਰਤਾਂ ਦੇ ਦਮਨ ਅਤੇ ਸਮਾਜ ਦੀ ਪ੍ਰਭਾਵੀ ਜਮਾਤ ਵੱਲੋਂ ਇਹਨਾਂ ਮਸਲਿਆਂ ਤੇ ਚੁੱਪੀ ਧਾਰਨ ਦੇ ਵਰਤਾਰੇ ਨੂੰ ਦਰਸ਼ਕਾਂ ਸਾਹਮਣੇ ਪੇਸ਼ ਕੀਤਾ ਗਿਆ।ਵਿਦਿਆਰਥੀਆਂ ਵੱਲੋਂ ਨਾਟਕ ਦੇ ਕਿਰਦਾਰਾਂ ਦੇ ਰੂਪ ਵਿੱਚ ਕ੍ਰਮਵਾਰ ਭਾਸਕਰ (ਵਿਦਿਆਰਥਣ ਜੈਰੂਸਾ) ਲੀਲਾ (ਵਿਦਿਆਰਥਣ ਭੂਮਿਕਾ) ਮੋਹਣ (ਵਿਦਿਆਰਥੀ ਵਿਸ਼ਾਲ ਸਦਵਾਲ), ਨੈਣਾ (ਵਿਦਿਆਰਥਣ ਅਣੁਸ਼ਕਾ) ਸੁਰਿੰਦਰ (ਵਿਦਿਆਰਥੀ ਵਿਸ਼ਨੂੰ) ਤੇ ਫਰੀਦਾ (ਵਿਦਿਆਰਥੀ ਈਸ਼ਾ) ਨੇ ਆਪਣੀ ਸ਼ਾਨਦਾਰ ਐਕਟਿੰਗ ਨਾਲ ਔਰਤਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਹੁੰਦੇ ਬਲਾਤਕਾਰਾਂ, ਘਰੇਲੂ ਹਿੰਸਾ ਤੇ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਸਰੀਰਕ-ਮਾਨਸਿਕ ਸ਼ੋਸ਼ਣ ਦਾ ਪ੍ਰਤੱਖ ਖਾਕਾ ਸਟੇਜ ਤੇ ਉਲੀਕਿਆ।
ਜੇਤੂ ਵਿਦਿਆਰੀਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਇਨਾਮ ਵੰਡਣ ਦੀ ਰਸਮ ਮੁੱਖ ਮਹਿਮਾਨ ਅਤੇ ਕਾਲਜ ਪ੍ਰਿੰਸੀਪਲ ਨੇ ਅਦਾ ਕੀਤੀ। ਇਸ ਪ੍ਰੋਗਰਾਮ ਨੂੰ ਸਫਲ ਬਣਾਉਣ ਵਿੱਚ ਡਾ. ਹਰਲੀਨ ਕੌਰ, ਪ੍ਰੋ. ਤਨਵੀਰ ਕੌਰ, ਪ੍ਰੋ. ਗਗਨਦੀਪ ਕੌਰ, ਪ੍ਰੋ. ਚਿਤਵਨ ਕੌਰ, ਪ੍ਰੋ. ਅਮਨਦੀਪ ਕੌਰ, ਪ੍ਰੋ. ਹਰਪ੍ਰੀਤ ਸਿੰਘ ਦਾ ਅਹਿਮ ਯੋਗਦਾਨ ਰਿਹਾ। ਇਸ ਮੌਕੇ ਤੇ ਸਾਰੇ ਅਧਿਆਪਕ ਸਹਿਬਾਨ ਤੇ ਸਮੂਹ ਸਟਾਫ਼ ਹਾਜ਼ਿਰ ਸੀ।
